Bazinga, Richie Rich

There seems to be at least one reference to Disney in every episode of The Big Bang Theory, and tonight's installment was no exception. Since the Big Bang guys are all comic fans it seemed inevitable that a Disney comic book reference would pop up sooner or later, and tonight's was a good one. In this episode entitled "The Wiggly Finger Catalyst," Sheldon used the often-discussed question of whose fortune is larger, Richie Rich's or Uncle Scrooge's, to describe Raj's wealth. (The answer is, needless to say, Uncle Scrooge.) Sheldon simply explained that Raj's family is "Richie Rich rich" or "about halfway between Bruce Wayne and Scrooge McDuck.' Leave it to Dr. Sheldon Cooper to put it all in perspective in such a colorful comic-centric manner—a way which even the non-geniuses among us can understand. (and in case you are wondering, the Uncle Scrooge cover pictured here was published in 1961, and the Richie Rich cover was issued in 1976. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who stands the tallest between these two diminutive financial giants.)

On The Set With Sheldon And Leonard

Have you ever longed to hang out with the Big Bang Theory boys? A recent layout of Entertainment Weekly is the next best thing, as it provides a detailed look at the main set, which is Sheldon and Leonard's Pasadena apartment, as fascinatingly appointed by set decorator Ann Shea. Unfortunately, there is no mention of the comic related art seen throughout the various rooms of the apartment (as mentioned here ) but then the details called out are quite intriguing in their own right, especially the vintage scientific equipment (and the cereal boxes, changed each week to make it look as if the set is an actual apartment in which real people actually live). Take a close look at the set (click on the image for a larger view) and you'll feel your IQ rising—or at the very least feel like gaming or playing Rock-Scissors-Spock.

Big Bang Is Back, On TV And In The Comics

As most of you already know, this past Monday, September 21, brought The Big Bang Theory back for a third season on CBS. What you may not know is that the four comic-book loving geeks—make that geniuses—also make an appearance in a comic book now on the stands. In the October issue (no. 4) of Power Girl, written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti and drawn by Amanda Conner, the Big Bang boys make a cameo appearance, as you can see in the page pictured to the left. It's entirely appropriate that the male stars (sorry, Penny) of the show appear in this context, not only because the geeky guys are funny-book freaks but also because Power Girl is published by DC, which is owned by Warner Bros., which produces The Big Bang Theory. Now that's synergy of a very fun kind.
