You’ve wandered into the topsy-turvy world of Tulgey Wood, the blog of writer and historian Jim Fanning. Tulgey Wood celebrates artistry and creativity (and sometimes just plain madness): movies, animation, TV, books, comics—and of course Disney, lots and lots of true-blue, through-and-through Disney, including D23 and Disney twenty-three Magazine, and Sketches Magazine and the Walt Disney Collectors Society. Tulgey Wood is so fun, fascinating and full of frolicsome photos and facts, it’s scary. So wander through the wonder of it all, and enjoy.

Christmas Fun With Bugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies

It should come as no surprise to fans of Bugs Bunny that the fun-loving critter knows how to throw a party, so there's been many a Bugs comic published over the years overflowing with Yuletide festivities. This cover of the Bugs Bunny Christmas Party comic from 1955 (drawn I believe by Paul Murry) portrays Bugs getting in the spirit of the season by sharing a carrot with Tweety—and the merrymakers also include, you will note, Sylvester, unusually close to his usual prey. The lion shall lay down with the lamb (make that the puddy tat and the baby bird), indeed. For more fun from the annually published (from 1950 through 1958, with only 1955 seeing the publication of Bugs Bunny Christmas Party instead) Bugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies, dance on over here to the excellent Big Blog of Kids' Comics (and I hasten to add these great comics are not for kids only). There, blogmaster Mykal has posted not only this delightful Christmas comic story starring Bugs (from Bugs Bunny's Christmas Funnies No. 7 1956) but also other Christmas comics too.

A Vegan Thanksgiving Treat

Bugs Bunny is bypassing the bird to feast on his favorite vegan Thanksgiving (or anytime) treat in this cover from the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies comic book (#122 1955). I love how pushed the art was in this era, giving the characters a look that was both cute and a bit manic—looney, one might say. Enjoy this classic Warner Bros, cover as you plan on what veggies you will serve (or eat) on Thursday.

A Tricky Treat From Bugs Bunny

We can't let Halloween time fly by here at Tulgey Wood without a visit with Bugs Bunny. Bugs regularly celebrated Halloween in his comic books, and you can revel in one of that wascally wabbit's trick-or-treat comic book treats in its entirety. Just head on over the excellent horror-comics blog, The Horrors of It All, or as it's known, THOIA, and enjoy the spooky story from Bugs Bunny's Trick 'n' Treat Halloween Fun (#3 1955)—the terrific art pictured at right is from this Giant Comic's back cover. While you're there check out the other horror comics master blogger Kraswell has posted but beware—it's all pre-Comics Code material so there's some strong stuff here and there.
