You’ve wandered into the topsy-turvy world of Tulgey Wood, the blog of writer and historian Jim Fanning. Tulgey Wood celebrates artistry and creativity (and sometimes just plain madness): movies, animation, TV, books, comics—and of course Disney, lots and lots of true-blue, through-and-through Disney, including D23 and Disney twenty-three Magazine, and Sketches Magazine and the Walt Disney Collectors Society. Tulgey Wood is so fun, fascinating and full of frolicsome photos and facts, it’s scary. So wander through the wonder of it all, and enjoy.

Did Pebbles Ever Go Trick-Or-Treating At The Gruesomes?

Coloring books, comic books, and storybooks—The Gruesomes made the scene in them all. Introduced in The Flintstones episode originally broadcast on November 12, 1964, Weirdly and Creepella and their son Goblin got more play in the printed-page tie-ins to the animated TV series than did some other characters from the show. (Think Baby Puss.) Just in time for our Countdown to Halloween 2018, here are those next-door ghouls in a Big Golden Book from 1965.

Jim:

I just want you to know how much I love the annual series of Halloween posts!

Imagine a place where The Gruesomes, Donald Duck, Batman, Scooby-Doo, Lost in Space… and even ME (Talk about scary!) come together for one grand celebration!

I’m just hoping that, before you’re done, you don’t select the same comic cover image that I have planned for my Halloween post (…a “horrifically busy” guy like me only has time for one)! …Then again, it would actually be fun if we do!

Happy Halloween!

I loved the Flintstones - and the Gruesomes - as a kid. The cartoon, the books and comics. Was all in.

DC Comics had an issue of "The Flintstones and the Jetsons" where the Flintstones and the Rubbles went to the Gruesome's place in Halloween costumes; Bamm-Bamm looked cool in a Superman-like costume (fits his super-strength).

In a Flintstones DC comics Halloween story around two decades a ago, Bamm-Bamm wwhose gang visited the Gruesomes) looked Interesting in the Superman-ish costume he wore; it matches his super-strength.
