Here's a heartwarming artwork created by Disney artist Russell Schroeder (author of
Disney Lost Chords, which you can purchase
here) that was published on the cover of the November 24, 1983 issue of
Walt Disney World Eyes & Ears (the cast member newsletter). (Click on the image for a larger view.) Leave it to heartfelt Mickey Mouse—and of course Minnie—to so cozily, so simply, yet so profoundly remind us that Thanksgiving Day is all about counting our blessings. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
I have that edition of Eyes and Ears plus several more that feature painted covers by Russell Schroeder. Actually, Russell was my very first contact within the Disney organization, and became a good friend in the years hence. His paintings always had that very warm and inviting quality, and really capture that element of charm that we all associate with Walt's era. Russell primarily painted with Cel Vinyl colours, the same medium the studio used to paint animation cels. Though a type of acrylic, Cel Vinyl had a rich matte finish that was more like gouache. Russell was a master with it!
